postheadericon Out with the Old, In with the New

It's been a while since I updated my blog n things.  So much has happened in the last couple months, that updating my blog, well, just didn't seem so important.
On October 25, 2011, I lost my ♥Daddy♥, so keeping up with my blog was just not important because he was always on my mind.

Anyway...lots of changes going on in the PSP world.  My friend and amazing artist Gary Rudisill decided to close his store, Asylum due to being in demand on other projects. He has decided to go out on his own and you can find all his tubes here by clicking on his name.
The images are $1.75, and the site is sooooo very easy to use and it's quick.  He also has things for sale on ebay, like mouse pads, etc.
I will update more on Gary when I get all is links to his stores, ebay, etsy, blog, etc.

Remember to cherish n hug your loved ones on a daily basis...life is too short!

postheadericon PSP Asylum

I don't remember if I mentioned this or not...but I am part of the
"Nursing Staff" (CT) for PSP Asylum.  I was honored to have been asked to
be part of the staff by Gary Rudisill and Amanda Surgill.

There are wonderful artists and designers
at the store already and who knows, more
may be added...never know what
Gary and Amanda have up their sleeves.

(scroll to the bottom of the blog)
all his tubes are on sale for the week with a 20% off.

Freya Langford-Sidebottom
is now with the Asylum...check out two of her
images that I had to have....

postheadericon Tutorial on Coloring A Black n White Image

Adding Color to a Black n White Image
using Paint Shop Pro

Photobucket

This tutorial was written by me, Joanie Kadi-Riley (aka RyLee) on August 17, 2011.  Any resemblance to any other
tutorial is purely coincidental.  Please do not copy, rip or claim as your own.  You may use my tutorial in a forum or group, but
please Link back to my blog...do not copy/paste!

This is how I color an image...may not be the right way or an easy way, but this works for me!

Remember, your best friend(s) in PSP, is the "undo" the "delete" and the "zoom in" button!

Very, Very Important!  Remember to SAVE often!    I usually save after each section I complete.

I am using a black n white image "Beyond Innocence" by Gary Rudisill
which can be purchased at Cherry Gurlz.  Make sure you have a license number
before using any artwork.

*If you are using an artist other than Gary Rudisill, please make sure that the
artist allows coloring of his/her black n white images*

~What you will need for this tut:

I am using PSPX2, but any version of PSP will work.
Very helpful to have a color wheel or HTML website open...it's easier to look at and pick a color, especially a flesh tone.
This is the website I usually have opened for color codes
a black n white image
A must have - music, coffee, and patience

Are you ready to start????
Take a deep breath, exhale :)

Open up the image in Paint Shop Pro.
Shift-D to make a copy, minimize the original.

Add a new layer, move to the bottom of the tube,
flood fill the new layer with a dark color...doing this will help you see the outline of the image.

Select your "freehand tool" or "lasso tool",
you can tweak this to your liking.
Photobucket

I find it best to "zoom" in on the image as much as you need too to see all the little stray pixels, lines. etc.
*Make sure you zoom in before you start using the lasso tool, you will not be able to zoom in while outlining.

You can start anywhere you want, I usually start at the top, (head) and work my way down.

*Make sure you don't double click until you have outlined the area you are working on, if you do, you will have to start over.* Not fun!

Using the "freehand tool" or "lasso tool" start "outlining" the hair, taking little sections at a time.
(if you go off the line a bit, hit your "delete" key until you are back to the area before you goofed.)

Once you are done outlining,
Add a new layer above the main image, rename this "hair".
Choose a color of choice for the
hair, flood fill the new layer with that color, Selections/Select none.

In the layers palette, change the "blend mode" to multiply.
this will allow the shading from the original image to come through.
You can play with the blend modes to your liking..sometimes "overlay" works well also.

This is where I would start saving...after each color is added.....trust me...I found out the hard way....I was almost done
with an image when our power went out....I cried because I didn't save it and had to start all over.
Save as a psp.image..continue to your next area.

In the layers palette, highlight your b/w image, select the next area you want to color.
Take your time, and outline your next area.
Add a new layer, rename this layer.
Flood fill with choice of color, change the blend mode to multiply,
Selections/Select none.
SAVE as a psp.image....continue to your next area.

Keep working your way down.  I usually do all the small parts first, eyes, lips, etc.
I end up doing the body last.

Choosing a "flesh" color is usually the tough part for me...lol.

Add new layer above your original b/w image,
flood fill with your flesh color, change blend mode to multiply, Selections/None.

*You will notice that when you add the flesh tone to the image, the other colors get distorted....
this is what I do, and it works for me, time consuming maybe, but it works.
start at the top, ie. hair, highlight the hair layer, Selections/All/Float/De-float,
highlight the layer you added the flesh color too, hit the delete key.  This will remove the flesh color from the hair layer.

*Repeat this step for all the layers.

Before you delete your bottom layer, (the flood-filled layer), check your image.
If you find that you may have colored outside the lines a bit
don't panic, easy fix....
*right click on the top bar of the image, copy merge and paste as a new image,
Selections/All/Float/De-float/Modify/Contract by 1/Invert/hit delete key.
this will clean up your image a bit and get rid of any stray pixels.

Another quick tip....
when all done, right click on the top bar of the image, Copy merge/Paste as New Image....this will merge
the layers together, but will also let you save the original as a psp.image so it can be used again in the future if you want too.

Well, I think that's about it.....just remember to take your time, but also, use your imagination and be creative!

I hope this was easy to read, understand and follow.  I would love to hear any feedbacks...rylee1966@gmail.com
Thank you for trying my tutorial!

postheadericon New tutorial "ATTITUDE" featuring Gary Rudisill's Art

"ATTITUDE"
by RyLee
Photobucket

This tutorial was written by me, Joanie (aka RyLee) on May 26, 2011.  This is my own creation and idea from my own little brain, and
any similarities to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
This tutorial is for those who have a working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop  &
was written using PSPX3, but any version can be used.
Artwork ©Gary Rudisill
Do Not use his artwork without the proper License.
You can purchse this tube and more at PTE
PSP Tubes Emporium

~Supplies Needed:~

Tube of Choice
Template by Denny
of Denz Designz
template 157
~Plug Ins
Xero - Fritillary
Mura Meister - Copies
Penta.com - Dot & Cross
Eye Candy - Gradient Glow

~Let's Get Started~

Open the template, shift + D to duplicate it, close the original.
Delete the copyright info
Flood fill the bottom layer with white,
close off all layers except the bottom and the two rectangles.
copy/paste your tube of choice above the rectangle layers.

Effects, plugins/mura meister/copies/wallpaper(rotate)/enter

Adjust/blur/Gaussian blur/10, duplicate this layer once, hide both layers.
Highlight the bottom rectangle, select/select all/select float/invert. unhide one of the blurred tubed layers; delete on your keyboard; select/select none.
repeat this step for the 2nd rectangle, delete the black rectangles.
you can either keep your rectangles in the same position, or move them (see my 2nd tag for placement)
I always apply the crop tool to the size of your canvas to remove anything
left over.

highlight one of your rectangles, select/select all/float/defloat/modify/expand by 6, add new raster layer,
flood fill with color or gradient of choice, select/modify/contract by 6/delete select/select none.  This will give you thin frame; repeat the above step 1 more time
for the remaining rectangle.
Add a drop shadow of choice.
Merge the blurred layers ONLY together;
Duplicate this layer 2 times for a total of 3.

Effects/Xero/Fritillary

Photobucket

Highlight the 2nd, adjust your variation according to your liking.  I usually go up by 10-15, enter.
Highlight the 3rd layer, again, adjust the variation.  (I start with the first number, in this case 64), and go down 10-15, enter.
In your layer palette highlight the layer (thin strip 2); select/select all/select Float/select defloat/add new raster layer, flood fill with black or a dark color of choice;
Select/select none.  Repeat this step for the layer Thin strip 1; delete the gray template layers for each thin strip.

Open a new blank canvas, 600 x 600, flood fill with a dark color.
with a font like Pixelette or something similar, I used Aparajita, size 20, stroke 0, anti-alias-off, type out "I Don't Need Your Attitude, I Got My Own"
or something you want to use, Objects/align/center of canvas/covert to raster layer.

Effects/Plugins/Mura Meister/Copies/tiling/change the TILE GAP to 1, enter
paste as new layer above the thin rectangles on your tag.
with the magic wand, click inside each of the thin strip layers, (make sure you highlight each one in the layer palette), highlight the word layer, delete on your keyboard.   You should now
have words in both thin strips only; add drop shadow of choice to the rectangle layers.

Highlight the circle layer, select/select all/float/defloat/add new raster layer/flood fill with color of choice; add tube of choice, invert/delete on keyboard/select/select none.
delete your circle template layer.
On your tube layer you just added (circle), change it to Luminancy (L); reduce the opacity to about 40%, or whatever you choose.
Effects/plugins/Penta.com/Dot & Cross/amount 85/cross distance 5/cross width 2, apply.
Highlight the Dotted Circle layer, select/select all/select float/defloat/add new raster layer.  choose a color or gradient of choice, you may want to zoom in so you can see the dotted circle, flood fill.
just an option, it's up to you and your liking, i moved the dotted circle layer down under the thin rectangle layers,
Select/select none.
I added a small Gradient Glow to this layer, drop shadow of choice.
Delete the dotted circle template.

The next layers are the brackets, i didn't use them, but you can if you want.
Follow the steps for the rectangles, using color, gradient, paper etc. of choice.

The next layer is the "Attitude" layer.  You can do what you want too or what i did.  Since I used a tube that had a close-up, I copied/pasted it above
the word layer (attitude).  On the word layer, select/select all/float/defloat/invert, highlight the tube layer; delete on your keyboard; select/select none.
Delete the word template layer.
You can do whatever you want, I added a Gradient Glow to my "Attitude" layer,
drop shadow of choice.

Add your main tube of choice.  Position into place, add a drop shadow of choice.
You should make any adjustments that you want too.
If you are going to resize, now would be the time to do that before you add your copyright.  I don't know about you, but my copyright gets distorted
when I add it before resizing.  Resizing is just an option, you do what you want, it's your tag!!

When resizing, make sure you change the pixels to 72 dpi per inch.  Most templates are done at 300 dpi per centimeter.  After resizing, I always
adjust/sharpen/ each layer.  sometimes the layers tend to get distorted a bit.
new raster layer (top) add your artists copyright. make sure it's clean n clear.
pick out a font of choice, add a name.
If you don't want to animate, save your tag as desired...jpeg, png. etc.

~Animation~

Close off the 2nd & 3rd fritillary layers, right click on the top bar of the tag, copy merged and paste as a new animation in AS,
Back to PSP, close of 1st layer, unhide layer 2, copy merged, paste as after current frame;
repeat for the 3rd fritillary layer.
View your animation, once happy, file, save as.

Here is another tag using the same template, just moved things around and added a mask to the background.

postheadericon New Blog Name....etc.

So I decided to change the name of my blog since I'm slowing getting back into creating tags, and being part of a Creative Team for one of my dearest friends...luv ya Kristi!!! I was on her creative team a while ago, then some things were going on in my real life with my son, so I kind of got out of tagging, etc., but I am slowly getting back into it, it's my passion...I'm addicting to Paint Shop Pro..what can I say...come on...you can all admit it too...it's a safe addiction!!!
I had a hard time finding a unique name, so I chose this one for a couple reasons...
1. I looooove eyes!! Eyes are the first thing I notice, it's like I'm drawn to them.
2. I love Angels, (but I wear the horns)
Well, that's about it for now. Little by little I will add my other addiction to my blog...photography. Love taking pictures of flowers, especially my roses!!! Got some bug pics too, and some animals.
When I have time....lol, I want to redo my blog background. I kind of have an idea in my head, but sometimes that's where it stays...can never seem to get it out of my head into PSP the way it looks in my head....ughhhh.
